For Smith, embracing happiness might be the biggest risk of all. “Joy, for a lot of queer people, can be a scary place,” they said. “We’re masters of pain, but it takes courage to step into pure joy.”
The song itself is a story of infidelity, but with a twist. Unlike “I’m Not The Only One,” the response here is one of resilience, humor, and a touch of mischief. It’s a clear sign that Smith isn’t taking themselves too seriously anymore.

February 2023 saw “Unholy” take home the Grammy for Best Duo/Group Pop Performance, Smith’s first nomination since 2015 and Petras’s first ever. The song also appears as a bonus track on Petras’s debut album, “Feed the Beast.”
